It’s a gift.

I once saw this little thing on TV about a girl who was born with no pain sensors. One of those real-life story things. The mother, after hearing about her daughter’s inability to feel pain, commented, “That’s such a gift.” She soon found otherwise, when her daughter started to grow and would dump boiling water on herself and have deep burns but no pain. She would tear her face apart, leaving marks but experiencing no pain.
The point is this: Pain is a gift. Pain keeps us safe. It keeps us in line. Not just physically, but spiritually. When we are hurt about things, a little red flag inside of us goes off, telling us to change. To find help, to do something different.
It’s only when we ignore our pain and bury it into ourselves that we turn the gift God has given us into a curse.
